How far is Villa Gardenia from the beach, the restaurants and grocery stores? Sandy Hill beach is within walking distance; it can also be reached by car. All the other beaches in Anguilla are 15 to 20 minutes away. Anguilla is a small island: 16 miles long and 3 miles wide. The finest restaurants are within 15 to 25 minutes drive. Grocery stores can be reached in less than 10 minutes. How does one get to Anguilla/Villa Gardenia? American Eagle flies from San Juan, Puerto Rico directly into Wallblake airport in Anguilla. One can also take a 10 minute flight from the Juliana airport in St. Maarten/ St. Martin or a ferry from Marigot in St. Martin to Anguilla's port of entry, Blowing point. From either one of these points of entry a cab will take you to the villa. What are the entry requirements for Anguilla? A passport is required for everyone. A visa is given at the point of entry for up to one month. The visa can be renewed for the length of your stay. What is the Language? Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory. English is spoken. What is the currency and can one use credit cards or access ATM machines? The island uses US dollars and Eastern Caribbean dollars interchangeably. Major credit cards are accepted in most, but not all, places. Gas stations and some grocery stores do not accept credit cards, so bring some cash and Traveler's checks. There are also ATM machines on the island where you can get cash in US dollars for the requisite fee. Do I need currency adaptors for my personal electric devices? Electricity in Anguilla is 110 Volts AC. American outlets are used. Can I use my cell phone and/or call 800 You can only use your cell phone if your home carrier has a roaming agreement with Cable & Wireless. You can call those numbers but you will be charged regular, long distance rates. You can make phone calls charged to your major credit card by calling 1-800-CALL-USA. Digicell has recently come to Anguilla. You may call them there and rent a cell phone for the duration of your stay with more reasonable rates; they have offices everywhere. Is there air conditioning? The villa has a constant breeze all the time. Nights are cool in Anguilla and it is very comfortable to sleep with some windows open, and it is soothing to hear the sound of the waves. All the windows have screens and there are ceiling fans in all the rooms. Are there Laundry facilities? Yes, there is a washer and a dryer in the house. Is the water safe to drink? Anguilla is a semi-arid island. Water is a precious commodity and every effort is made to conserve it. The water in the villa comes from rainwater. The water passes though two filters, one in the main pipe line to the house and the other is hooked to the drinking water faucet in the kitchen sink. It is perfectly safe to drink. Bottled water is also available in the island. Is internet available? Yes, there are high speed DSL connections in four locations in the villa as well as a wireless modem. There are several places in the island where you can access the internet or fax for a small fee. |
